For protection from bugs: shake well and apply as often as needed to skin. Avoid eyes and mouth when applying. For kids 3 years or younger, spray on clothes, not directly on skin.

Essential Oils Used:

Lavender: Repels moths, fleas, ticks, flies and mosquitoes. Although people love the smell of lavender, mosquitoes, flies and other unwanted insects hate it. In fact, lavender essential oil has been used as a bug repellent for centuries, often utilized to protect clothes and linens from the infestation of moths and other insects. It helps to control an infestation of black beetles, flies, fleas and can even help one from being bitten by mosquitoes and other biting insects. A tick deterrent and a method of preventing tick eggs from hatching. Additionally, Ohio State University recommends it for controlling fleas. If you are bitten, you can use the oil to prevent the spread of infection caused by a bite as well as to control the inflammation and itching that’s typically associated with it.

Lemon Eucalyptus: Repels insects; the significant content of citronellal is extremely effective for driving away insects, including those that bear diseases, for up to 8 hours after application. In fact, lemon eucalyptus essential oil has been praised as a viable replacement for DEET and other dangerous insecticides and has proven to be just as effective.

Lemongrass: Contains citronellal, a compound of Citronella that repels mosquitoes. It is also a natural flea and tick repellent.. It’s especially good for repelling fleas, flies, and mosquitoes.

Peppermint: The minty clean aroma of peppermint is so much better than that icky chemical smell, and it also serves as a natural insecticide that kills and repels mosquitoes, ants, fleas, beetles, spiders, flies and even mice. A study published in the Malaria Journal showed why it’s so effective – the researchers found that it offered repellent action when applied to exposed body parts. It also showed significant larvicidal and mosquito repellent action, with mosquito larvae killed 24 hours after exposure to a solution of peppermint oil and water.
